Anyone who has traced their ancestry back to Moses will have the same question,  who was Moses father?.  At the time of writing there is no definite answer but I will look at the evidence that has been found in upcoming posts.

Stop press.       Could DNA hold the answer???

But back to the very beginning.  The baptism records for the Independent Chapel in Ilkeston, Derbyshire state that Moses was born on 19 Apr 1804 and baptised on 5 May he was the son of Elizabeth from Cossall. As there is no fathers name we can assume that Elizabeth was single, although there is no mention that Moses was illegitimate so another possibility could be that Elizabeth was a widow and her husband had died before Moses was born.

At present we know nothing about Moses formative years.  Our next opportunity of finding him is at his Marriage in 1826.
