Joseph Daykin 1838 – 1898

Joseph was christened on 28th January in Bramcote, the sixth child and fifth son of Moses and Ann.

The 1851 census was taken on the night of Sunday 30th March.  Joseph was 13 and his occupation was that of Coal Miner.  It is impossible to know if Joseph was actually mining the coal or if he was involved in pulling the wagons from the coal face to the pit shaft.

On 28th May 1860 Joseph married Mary Daws at St Patrick’s church in Nuthall.  Mary was the daughter of William and Jane (neé Wheelaker)

The family suffered a tragedy in 1887 with the death of son William Henry aged 22. The coroners report was published in the Nottingham Evening Post.

Hannah died on 1st June 1898 her death certificate gives the cause of death as heart disease of 4 years. Joseph died 60 days later of heart failure
